The Body is Amazing

Filed under: pregnancy, weight loss — Ted Johns @ 11:20 am

God designed our bodies in such an amazing way. He made the male body and then took one of Adam’s ribs and made the female body. And these temporary shells are the most amazing, elaborate, intricately-designed creations.

Take, for example, women and birth. The woman’s body is able to grow a human inside her uterus. For nine months it extends and stretches to accommodate this newly-formed human. Once the woman gives birth to her new child, the body knows to begin producing breast milk and the uterus knows to begin contracting back to its original size. Amazing. No crash weight loss course necessary. No hoodia is necessary. The body knows what to do! And all because God is an amazing designer.

Week 35: Going, Going, Still Going…

Filed under: pregnancy — Ted Johns @ 10:33 am

This information was gathered from whattoexpect. com.

Did you know that the measurement in centimeters from the top of your pubic bone to the top of your uterus is roughly equivalent to the number of weeks of pregnancy? So this week your practitioner will likely be measuring 35 centimeters on the tape measure. It’s an easy way to remember how far along you are (as if you’d ever lose track).Something else that’ll remind you just how far along you are in your pregnancy: the frequency at which you’re making trips to the bathroom — again. It’s first trimester déjàvu all over again, but this time, instead of pregnancy hormones to blame, it’s the position of your baby’s head that’s causing the need to pee. Now that your baby is (most likely) head down and (almost) engaged in preparation for childbirth, his or her head is pressing squarely on your bladder. The result? As before, you go, girl — to the bathroom, that is. And you go again and again.

And as if that’s not enough, you may also experience urgency (gotta go now!) or a lack of bladder control when you cough, sneeze, or even laugh (though there’s nothing funny about that). Don’t be tempted to cut back on liquids, thinking it will lessen your bathroom jaunts. You need your fluids! Instead, empty your bladder as completely as possible by leaning forward (if you can with that big belly of yours — be careful not to tip over), practice your Kegel exercises (which will strengthen the pelvic muscles and prevent or correct most cases of pregnancy-induced incontinence), and wear a panty-liner if you need one (and you thought you had more years ahead of you before you had to depend on Depends!).

Keim Center Staff and Volunteers

Keim Center Staff and Volunteers

I had the privilege of taking the pictures for the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater’s Keim Center in Suffolk, VA last night. It was kind of a sloppy night unfortunately. We had gotten a dusting of snow, but it was enough to make it somewhat slippery in certain places, so not as many people came out. We had a few brave souls, nonetheless, come visit the Suffolk, VA Keim Center.

Susan is in her 32nd or 33rd week…

I am losing track! This is very similar to the picture we took for our Christmas card, but our house is small and we don’t have many places to take pictures…:)

My Beautiful Pregnant Wife

Filed under: Family Life, photography, pregnancy — Ted Johns @ 10:12 am

Ok, I admit that I have been straying away from the main subject of this blog: Susan and I having a baby, and my perspectives on it. We are starting our eighth month and Susan is starting to really feel the desire to have the baby and bring our little girl into the world.
Seven Months Pregnant and Reclining

I think we both feel the pressure. We have had mild mood swings and wacky discussions. I guess that is all part of the territory. Life is about to challenge so radically that I still haven’t wrapped my mind around it.

I think we are at week 31…whoo hoo!

Filed under: Family Life, pregnancy — Ted Johns @ 4:21 pm

I have been feeling Susannah more and more as time closes in on the birth of our daughter. I can lay with my back to Susan’s stomach, and I can feel the kicks and punches. Pretty amazing. I think she wants out!

I got this info from a site, pregnancy.about.com about the week-to-week progress:
Susannah’s movements will supposedly peak this week. From now on they will change in quantity and quality. Most of the wrinkles are disappearing from her face, and there may be a lot of hair on her head! The weight gain has been fairly incredible recently. Our baby has put on about 2 pounds of weight, mostly fat and muscle tissue, since last month, bringing the total to about three pounds eleven ounces (1.7 kilograms), and measurements to 40 cms or 15.8 inches!

My Daughter Scheduled to Arrive in March!

Filed under: Parenting, pregnancy — Ted Johns @ 9:45 pm

babyfoot I’m excited about this year.

Not only am I a bit older and wiser, but my daughter is scheduled to leave her mother’s womb and arrive here on this earth March 13.

Whoo. Wow. Unbelievable. Pretty Amazing.

I never imagined I would have children let alone a daughter.
Well, I couldn’t change things even if I wanted to, but I am excited the arrival of my little girl.

Lord, may you show me how to love and protect her just as you do your children.

May I share with her all the love that you have given to me. Amen!

Week 27: Your Bold, New Navel

Filed under: pregnancy — Ted Johns @ 4:07 pm

Every week, Susan and I get an interesting email from whattoexpect.com. Here is what we got this week. I am not exactly sure which week we are on now, but week 27 is close.

Has your innie been outed? Is it poking straight through your clothes these days, like a timer on a well-cooked turkey? Don’t worry: There’s nothing novel about navels that pop during pregnancy — just about every belly button does at some point. Still, two questions may now come to mind as you glance down at your bulging belly: One — what can you do now that your navel has taken on a larger-than-life life of its own? And two — will your button ever be.cute as a button again? On the first, there’s not much you can do (though this is a great opportunity to clean out all that lint). As your baby grows bigger and bigger, so will your belly button. If you find that the outie look doesn’t quite work with the fashion statement you’re trying to make, consider taping your protruding navel down with a Band-Aid. As far as what will happen postbaby? Your navel will revert inward after you give birth — though it might be a bit wider and looser than before. My advice: Wear your reconfigured belly button proudly.

About six months now…

Susan and I

Time is just dropping off, as it usually does. And before we know it, Susan will be giving birth to our little Susannah Elise. We are preparing, but I guess we can only prepare so much for what we have never experienced.

But our surprise and wonder at our pregnancy has got to pale in comparison with Abraham and Sarah’s pregnancy. Wow. Can you imagine?
Sarah: “Umm, Abraham? I’m pregnant.”
Abraham: “Say that again?”
Sarah: “I said I’m pregnant.”
Abraham: “How old are we again?”
Sarah: “Well, I’m 90 and you’re 100.”
Abraham: “Well…praise God!”
