The Yellow Room

Susannah’s room is painted a wonderful shade of sunshine yellow with murals covering three walls. Hold on, I am trying to find the pictures I took of the room.

Well, I will have to find them at home. Don’t you hate it when you think you have your photos organized to a point where you think you can find anything?

I think I have them somewhere else on another portable hard drive.

{edit, hours later}I found them!

Anyway, this room is going to be Susannah’s room if we stay in our house while she grows up. We may very well stay here. We love it in Portsmouth. The neighborhood we bought our house in has great character. Our neighbors are like the neighbors of old. We talk to each other. The neighbors across the street from us just had a little boy and so they are very kind in offering any kind of kids bedding or a swing or a bassinet. We have used that bassinet a whole lot. Susannah sleeps in our room for now, but we will soon get her used to her own bed and her own room. The yellow room. She will love it!

Our Baby/Guest Bedroom

Filed under: business, home and garden, house ownership, painting — Ted Johns @ 9:41 am

When Susan and I moved in to our cozy little doll house (built in the 1940s, this little bungalow has just under 1000 sq ft), we had plans on repainting, but once in the house, we really liked the country muted blues in the living room and the computer room, and the canary yellow for the previous owner’s baby room. We just kept it as is. Recently, however, Susan did some touching up because just before we moved in, the back left wall of the house had to be torn down and rebuilt because of previous termite and moisture damage. The company who worked on the wall had made some cracks on the inside of the baby bedroom and the bathroom, and then patched them up without caulk or liquid drywall or something. One Saturday, Susan went into the painting business. She busted out the paints and paintbrushes and repainted those areas. It looks a whole lot better and really shaping up for when Susannah arrives next month.

Super Bowl XLI and Furniture

What does Super Bowl Sunday and furniture have in common? It seems that if you go to someone’s house for the Big Game, you get the tour of the house. That includes the good, the bad and the ugly furniture. Furniture with character. Furniture that holds sentimental value.

And we are always looking for ways to fill our homes with quality and good-looking purchases to make our house a showcase and a home, right? Check out Powell furniture.

Owning a House

Filed under: house ownership — Ted Johns @ 1:10 pm

Susan and I bought a new flag recently. The flag we had last year began to tear and wear out,  and we want to respect Old Glory, so we sent it to a special company that disposes of worn-out flags properly.

What does that have to do with owning a house? I think it is important to keep up the house, overall. That means flying the flag, fixing fences, house painting, mowing the lawn (this is not my most fun of the around-the-house job) and just generally making the house look attractive. A nice benefit to keeping up the house is it is worth more once you are ready to sell.
