Home Improvements

Filed under: home and family, home and garden, home improvement — Ted Johns @ 7:27 pm

Should we build on to our house? Well, I am sure that will come. I really enjoy our neighborhood and I know that Susannah will have fun here. And the houses are going up in value, so the feasibility of us building on to our house. We could either bump it up or bump it out. Our house was built as a small 750 square foot bungalow in the 1940s and a utility room was added onto the back, but no ladder rack ,a third bedroom was added to the side, and central air and heat was added as well. I would like to add a second story to the house, but I am not opposed to moving out, but that would take more space away from our yard.

Our Baby/Guest Bedroom

Filed under: business, home and garden, house ownership, painting — Ted Johns @ 9:41 am

When Susan and I moved in to our cozy little doll house (built in the 1940s, this little bungalow has just under 1000 sq ft), we had plans on repainting, but once in the house, we really liked the country muted blues in the living room and the computer room, and the canary yellow for the previous owner’s baby room. We just kept it as is. Recently, however, Susan did some touching up because just before we moved in, the back left wall of the house had to be torn down and rebuilt because of previous termite and moisture damage. The company who worked on the wall had made some cracks on the inside of the baby bedroom and the bathroom, and then patched them up without caulk or liquid drywall or something. One Saturday, Susan went into the painting business. She busted out the paints and paintbrushes and repainted those areas. It looks a whole lot better and really shaping up for when Susannah arrives next month.

Super Bowl XLI and Furniture

Filed under: furniture, home and garden, home furnishings, house ownership, shopping — Ted Johns @ 12:27 pm

What does Super Bowl Sunday and furniture have in common? It seems that if you go to someone’s house for the Big Game, you get the tour of the house. That includes the good, the bad and the ugly furniture. Furniture with character. Furniture that holds sentimental value.

And we are always looking for ways to fill our homes with quality and good-looking purchases to make our house a showcase and a home, right? Check out Powell furniture.

Finding a House

Filed under: Family Life, home and garden — Ted Johns @ 2:26 pm

Does your place of residence have a prominent house marker? I was thinking about this because I know that Susan and my house doesn’t really have a prominent house marker and people are always getting lost when they want to come over. I know that when I am looking for a house, a condominium, or any building, I really really like it when I see a prominent house marker. Did I say I really like it? I need to get one for our house pronto! I don’t want anyone questioning, “Is that their house? I don’t know…I can’t see their house marker.”
