Spring and Summer Vacation

Filed under: furniture — Ted Johns @ 9:50 pm

Three years ago when Susan and I got married, it was quite the bash. Much of her family and their kids came out to the wedding here in Virginia Beach, VA. They decided to make a vacation of it and what a time they had. Susan’s mom and dad, many of her sisters and their families all had a grand time. And much of my side of the family came out for the wedding as well. It was a great time for all.

Well, we are trying to convince at least a few of them to make the journey out here again. There are so many things to do around the area, and we have our house with a pretty good sized yard. The only thing that is missing is some decent outdoor furniture. The stuff we have have the cushions wrapped in plastic bags. Not good.

I have been thinking of teak outdoor furniture. Teak is indigenous to the dry, hilly terrains of Indonesia and Southeast Asia. It is very dense and resistant to rot, warping, shrinkage and swelling, so it will last a long time for more and more family gatherings in the future. Well, I hope they will get out here again sometime, but I know that family vacations like that cost a whole lot of moolah. We shall see what the future holds.

The Yellow Room

Susannah’s room is painted a wonderful shade of sunshine yellow with murals covering three walls. Hold on, I am trying to find the pictures I took of the room.

Well, I will have to find them at home. Don’t you hate it when you think you have your photos organized to a point where you think you can find anything?

I think I have them somewhere else on another portable hard drive.

{edit, hours later}I found them!

Anyway, this room is going to be Susannah’s room if we stay in our house while she grows up. We may very well stay here. We love it in Portsmouth. The neighborhood we bought our house in has great character. Our neighbors are like the neighbors of old. We talk to each other. The neighbors across the street from us just had a little boy and so they are very kind in offering any kind of kids bedding or a swing or a bassinet. We have used that bassinet a whole lot. Susannah sleeps in our room for now, but we will soon get her used to her own bed and her own room. The yellow room. She will love it!

Eating Habits

Filed under: Family Life, furniture — Ted Johns @ 8:48 am

Susan and I usually have dinner at our dinner table, but there is the occasion where we like to bust out the folding tables and sit in the living room. We like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy from 7-8pm, and when we are running a bit late, we like to do that sometimes.

Now since our family has grown by 50%, we find it easier to eat at the table while Susan or I hold Susannah or place her in the bouncer chair that we put together this weekend. We were putting Susannah in a little basket that we purchased at a garage sale, but she is quickly outgrowing it. It is quite snug even for a 7 pounder like Susannah.

We are so Thankful for Family and Friends

Filed under: furniture — Ted Johns @ 6:54 pm

We want to thank all our family and friends who have rallied around us during this new time in our lives. It has been hectic, but we have had so much support, we just can’t thank all of you enough. Our friends got together to provide meals for us from Thursday evening till tomorrow, which I think translates to ten days. Wow. We are so grateful! They are living examples of Christ-likeness. We don’t have any sleeper sofas at our house, but we have two regular couches and a half-sofa. Anybody who needs to stay the night, they’re welcome!

We May Induce next Tuesday

Filed under: furniture — Ted Johns @ 5:20 pm

We visited the doctor today and she is saying that if we do not give birth the old-fashioned way this weekend, Susan will be induced on Tuesday morning. Wow. It is almost here. Pretty soon we will have the pitter patter of little feet and dirty diapers and crying in the middle of the night and waking up in the middle of the night assuaging the tears. And as she gets older she’ll ask for a bunk bed so her friends can stay overnight and have slumber parties. I am excited about the future with our daughter!

Stocking our Room for Susannah

Filed under: furniture — Ted Johns @ 5:08 pm

I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I must say that we are preparing our spare room for Susannah as she gets older. Susan has had fun organizing and stocking the baby room. Right now we have a double bed, a dresser and Susannah’s crib. I think we also have room for a pack ‘n play, but it is a tight fit. Once we are ready, we will be shopping for kids bedroom furniture.

Super Bowl XLI and Furniture

Filed under: furniture, home and garden, home furnishings, house ownership, shopping — Ted Johns @ 12:27 pm

What does Super Bowl Sunday and furniture have in common? It seems that if you go to someone’s house for the Big Game, you get the tour of the house. That includes the good, the bad and the ugly furniture. Furniture with character. Furniture that holds sentimental value.

And we are always looking for ways to fill our homes with quality and good-looking purchases to make our house a showcase and a home, right? Check out Powell furniture.
