Emergency! We Have No Batteries!

Filed under: batteries, electronics, emergencies, preparedness — Ted Johns @ 10:39 pm

Being a new Dad, I am thinking more and more about the safety of my family. Before I was married, of course it was only me. I was worried about only me, and that was not too much. Life is radically different now. And I love it!

Have you ever had an occasion where you needed your cell phone desperately, but your cordless phone battery went dead? Do they call it a cordless phone anymore? Well, anyway, I have faced the situation recently. I was off somewhere for a couple days, I had forgotten my charger and I did not have a spare battery for my phone. I had to make a call and then shut it off. I do not like having my phone off. There is no way to tell who is calling. Drives me nuts.

Yes, I am a techno-junkie. I am a product of the Internet and instant contact society. I actually love being in constant contact for some reason. I may have to get therapy for that.

What about other spare batteries for your camera, important medical equipment, flashlights or all the other variety of items that need batteries. Living near the Chesapeake Bay of Virginia, we get storms. Sometimes hurricanes. I want to be prepared when the time comes.

Touch Screen Repair

Filed under: computer hardware, computer repair, electronics — Ted Johns @ 4:07 pm

I moved to Virginia to accept my first job in the IT world in 2000. The company was Automark. When I came around, Automark was moving heavily into the web business, but before that, they were all kiosks all the time. They would place touch screen kiosks into automobile dealerships, install the software and video and customers could then get information through the interactive kiosks. Because the kiosks were built before the age of the internet, they weren’t connected, so Automark had a bunch of technicians who would go all over the country performing touch screen repair and all other kinds of repair. As the company grew, they hooked them all up to the internet and that saved the company a ton of money.

Got Cables?

Filed under: computer hardware, electronics — Ted Johns @ 10:48 am

Have you ever gotten a used computer that had cables missing? Have you ever bought a new tv and needed an extension for your internet or tv cable? Have you ever needed an HDMI cable? Those cables are designed to plug from a high-definition, all-digital video to display whatever in pure digital format. I have needed long USB connections and there are not that many stores around that carry unique cables and adaptors and stuff anymore.
