I Need a Stick of Memory

Filed under: computer hardware, computer repair, memory — Ted Johns @ 1:19 pm

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to boost our memory banks like we do with computers? Slap an extra stick of memory into the back of my head and I am good to go. I find that as I get older, and as I gather more and more memories, I find that I have to scramble a bit more to remember certain things. Names of people that I have known for years slip my mind. Of course, when I do not see the person for a year in between, I guess that has something to do with it, but I hate that!

I used to work for Reynolds Web Solutions as a Web Designer, and Steve was the owner of an ecommerce software company. He ended up working with us for almost two years and I got to know Steve pretty well. Others knew him as “the smoking man”. He spent a good amount of time in front of the building smoking.

Steve left Reynolds and I didn’t see him for about two or three years.  He shows up at my cubicle three or four months ago and I can’t remember his name. “Uh, Um, hi, how you doing!?” He knew I had forgotten his name. I know I hadn’t seen him for a long time, but that drives me crazy!

If I could just buy some computer memory for the human mind, that would be nice.

Funny Videos

Filed under: computer hardware, computer repair — Ted Johns @ 9:42 am

Susan and I had family over for the weekend. Her sister and brother-in-law and their two daughters spent the weekend with us. It gave a glimpse of our future with Susannah. So much fun! Sarah, whom they adopted from China, is five. Kaitlyn, who came along after Sarah’s adoption (how often does that happen!), is almost two.

Anyway, on to the funny videos. A few months back in October, Karla, Sarah and Kaitlyn called and left a message singing the Happy Birthday song to Susan, and Sarah was laughing through the whole message. It was just the best. I had just gotten Susan a new camera with the ability to take video clips. We pulled out the camera and recorded the message, and this weekend we were able to show Sarah and everyone the video. Very funny. I need a computer memory upgrade, though, because my computer is starting to chug along slower and slower with all the weddings I am shooting.

It was a blast seeing family as we prepare to have our little own make her grand entrance. Not here yet, but she is coming!

Touch Screen Repair

Filed under: computer hardware, computer repair, electronics — Ted Johns @ 4:07 pm

I moved to Virginia to accept my first job in the IT world in 2000. The company was Automark. When I came around, Automark was moving heavily into the web business, but before that, they were all kiosks all the time. They would place touch screen kiosks into automobile dealerships, install the software and video and customers could then get information through the interactive kiosks. Because the kiosks were built before the age of the internet, they weren’t connected, so Automark had a bunch of technicians who would go all over the country performing touch screen repair and all other kinds of repair. As the company grew, they hooked them all up to the internet and that saved the company a ton of money.
